John Galliano Fall 2000
Fashion show made from trash items slated for Nov. 17
Oct. 25 -- Old curtains, denim, table clothes and other items destined for the garbage can will soon be transformed into couture fashion during the fifth Trashy Fashion Show in Skokie, Ill.
The Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County is putting on the Nov. 17 event that will showcase 65 designers, ages 12 to adult, who will create 40 outfits and accessories from materials that would have been thrown away.
"SWANCC´s community project provides an opportunity for designers of all ages to create high-quality, one-of-a-kind, wearable art, with the stipulation that 90% of the main outfit is constructed from materials that could be headed for the landfill," Mary Allen, director of SWANCC´s recycling and education, said in a statement. "Each piece makes a statement about being respectful by utilizing resources a bit longer."
There is no cost to attend but space is limited and reservations are required by emailing info@swancc.org or calling SWANCC at 847-724-9205, ext. 201.
