Independence Day Dressing

Welp, the 4th of July is upon us.  And for most of us here in the U.S., we feel the need, not only to fly our flag outside, watch firework displays and eat terrible-for-us-but-oh-so-American food, we feel the need to wear red, white and blue, or sometimes (ugh) American flags on our clothing to celebrate our nation's b-day.

So I'm going to give you my take on dressing for the 4th, in my version of patriotic.  Granted, if you still want to go ahead and wear an embroidered American flag on the front of your T-shirt - fine - but hear me out. :)

For the 4th, I like to incorporate America's red, white and blue of course but in small doses and not too literally (read: I try not to look like the actual flag) I like to stay classy and polished, and you'll never catch me in an American flag T-shirt, come on people, be more creative than that!

If you are going (like most of us) to a backyard barbeque, or a picnic, and you're under 35, I'd wear this:

Classic striped tank, a red studded ripped up denim short (what's more American than that?!?!), a cute white thong sandal, a canvas tote, a cowboy hat necklace and a slick cat eye.  Done.

Here is another choice if you're over 35 (or if you're not over 35, but ripped denim isn't your thing):

A classic grey striped tank, bright red ankle skinnies, braided thong sandals, a straw bag, an American flag iPhone case, a mustache ring and a top knot to beat the heat.

If you have something more fancy to do on the 4th I'd go in this direction: Think Jackie O.

A simple and classically American dress, embellished thong sandals, a beaded red necklace, a wooden bracelet, a straw clutch and a breezy, upswept hairdo with little posts.
Beautiful!

Simple, elegant and gets the point across without looking gawdy and over the top.

Now for the NO's, just say no!!  Don't even dress your kids in it!

Are you Katy Perry? If not, you cannot wear the American flag out and look sane.  Yes, you will look like a crazy person.  No American flag PINS, no "American Pride" beltbuckles, just simple, chic, red, white and blue.
Unless you are a fashion model, Katy Perry, or a rockstar, do not go out like this...ever.

Here's a few more pics, just to make sure we're clear.......

Snore.

Really?

REALLY??!?!?!?!?!

Let's be more creative than this.  Snore. ZZZzzzzzz.

Yikes.  NO. Ugh.

Happy 4th of July!!!  Here's to red, white and blue popsicles, fireworks, mosquito bites and looking and feeling our best everyday!
